Question:
How do I download, install and use Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) for Mac OS or Windows to scan or search for or remove viruses?
Answer:
Please be aware that by responding to changes in licensing and advancements in antivirus technology, Virginia Tech limits downloads of the Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) software package to active Virginia Tech faculty and staff. For more information and recommendations of third-party antivirus programs, see Antivirus Options for Students. Additionally, at the end of the 2017-2018 academic year (June 30, 2018), all students must uninstall all Symantec software obtained from Virginia Tech. This does not include trial versions or software purchased from a third-party. For more information, please see Antivirus Protections for Student Computers and Devices.

In the case of home users, AV-TEST evaluated eight different security solutions, out of which no less than four got the maximum score by getting 6 out of 6 points in the three tests for protection, performance, and usability.
Bitdefender Antivirus for Mac, Intego VirusBarrier, Symantec Norton Security, and Trend Micro Antivirus have also performed flawlessly in this research. Somewhat surprising is that Kaspersky lost 0.5 points in performance tests to achieve an overall rating of 17.5 points.
Avira Antivirus Pro was one point behind with 16.5 points, while Avast Security and F-Secure Safe were the last products in … (read more)
